Often considered as one of the most beautiful mosques in Asia, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque was completed in 1958 and is dedicated to the 28th Sultan of Brunei, who helped design the mosque himself. His unique vision and creativity, by blending Indo-Islamic (Mughal) and Renaissance architectural styles, earned him the coveted title of the ‘Architect of Modern Brunei’.

The breath taking mosque is now a significant religious & historical site and is an internationally recognised landmark which dominates the skyline of the Capital city. Accommodating up to 3,000 people, the mosque serves as a place of spiritual development for the Muslim community and symbolises the sheer wealth of Brunei, the Abode of Peace.

Standing 171 feet high, the mosque's most recognisable feature is the dazzling main dome, covered in a 3.5-million-piece glass mosaic overlaying real gold leaf. No expense was spared during construction and only the highest quality materials were used to fit out the building, sourced from all corners of the globe.

Set back from the banks of the Kedayan River, a ceremonial stone barge sits in the reflection lagoon beside the mosque. It was officially opened by His Majesty in 1967 to commemorate the 1400th anniversary of Nuzul Al-Quran (the revelation of the holy Quran).
